Carbohydrate-Deficient Transferring (CDT) is a laboratory test used to help detect heavy ethanol consumption in patients with unexplained elevations of MCV, liver enzymes, HDL or idiopathic neuropathies.
CDT blood testing can be used to screen for alcohol abuse (heavy alcohol consumption). The protein transferrin carries iron to parts of the body, heavy consumption of alcohol can increase transferrin. High CDT levels can reduce if alcohol consumption is lowered and will generally return to normal after time.
